FSU, GSC Split In MEC Doubleheader

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Fairmont State and Glenville State split a mid-week Mountain East Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at the Sue Morris Complex in Glenville.

Nic Rush's two-run home run in the top of the third inning gave the Falcons the lead for good in the first game of the doubleheader. Later in the third inning, Darrin Zombro stole second and the catcher overthrew the second baseman trying to get the out to allow Sam Orr to cross home plate and put FSU ahead 4-1. Jacob Whitmore wrapped up the scoring in game one with an RBI single in the seventh inning.

The teams traded runs in the first inning to open up the scoring in the contest.

Tyler Holt (1-2) picked up his first victory of the season after allowing just a single run and five hits in the victory. Holt also struck out seven batters.

The teams combined for seven errors in game one, with GSC committing five in the loss.

After recording 10 hits in the first game of the day, the FSU bats went cold with just two hits in a 4-0 shutout loss in game two. Glenville State scored a run in the first and added two runs in the fourth and the final run of the game in the fifth to help the Pioneers pick up the 4-0 victory.

Karl Bennington picked up the victory on the hill for Glenville after striking out five batters and allowing just a two-hitter.

FSU will return to the field on Saturday afternoon at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex when West Liberty comes to town for a four-game weekend series.
