FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State women's volleyball team made quick work of West Virginia State, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16), on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena, improving to 14-8 overall and 7-1 in the Mountain East Conference.
The Falcons were once again led by Mackenzie Harrison with 14 kills and 11 digs, totaling an attacking percentage of .312. Kayla Smith also reached double-figures with 10 kills to go along with three block assists. Julia Shemaitis just missed double-digits kills, finishing with nine kills, six digs and four block assists.
Jessica Furda also recorded a double-double for the Falcons, passing out 39 assists and adding 10 digs defensively. Megan Clerico once again recorded a team-high in digs, totaling 14 in the victory.
The Falcons dominated the Yellow Jackets in nearly every statistical category, including a .297 team attacking percentage compared to a .155 clip for the 'Jackets. The Falcons also had a 10-2 advantage in blocks.
The Yellow Jackets (3-15, 1-6 MEC) didn't have a player reach double-figures in the match, but were led by Rebekah Baldwin with nine kills. Allison Turney and Breanna Barker each guided the State offensive attack with 16 assists apiece. Brooke Cieslewski tallied a team-high 15 digs in the match.
The Falcons will return to the court on Tuesday evening when they host West Liberty at 7 p.m. inside Joe Retton Arena.
