WEIRTON, W.Va. – The Fairmont State men's golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the 2016 Fall Invitational hosted by West Liberty University of Sunday and Monday at the Williams Country Club.
The Falcons finished in a tie with UVa-Wise for the fifth position, finishing with a team score of 604 in the two-round event. The Falcons were led by
Zac Gower, finishing in 11
th place over the weekend with a score of 149, shooting a round one score of 75 before improving his score to 74 on day two.
Gower shot a 3.00 in par-three scoring and recorded five birdies, finishing with 21 pars.
Logan Collins finished four back with a two-round score of 152 to finish in the top 15.
Ben Knight, a medalist at last week's Wally Edgell Intercollegiate, finished in a tie for 18
th with a score of 153 , shooting a 74 in round one.
Chase Voithofer shot a team-high 73 in the first round on Sunday before finishing the event with a score of 154 over the two days. Voithofer and Knight each added four birdies for the Falcons.
FSU will return to the course on Oct. 9-12 when they compete at the Mountain East Conference Championships at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, W.Va.
