FSU Hosts Concord Tuesday In MEC First Round Action

Scouting the Falcons
- The Fairmont State women's basketball team is the fifth-seed in the Mountain East Conference Tournament for the third-straight year and will host Concord on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the first round of tournament action at Joe Retton Arena.
- The winner of Tuesday's matchup will advance to Thursday's semifinal round for an 8:15 p.m. tip against No. 4 Glenville State.
- The Falcons opened the 2015 Mountain East Conference Tournament with a 110-80 victory over Urbana and defeated West Virginia State, 87-57, in the first round of the 2014 tournament.
- The Falcons are 26-18 all-time against Concord, including victories in five-straight games against the Mountain Lions.
- The Falcons swept the season series with Concord, defeating the Mountain Lions, 69-52, in Fairmont before running away with an 80-57 win in Athens.
- In the first meeting of the season in Fairmont, Makenzie White tallied 21 points, five rebounds and six assists, shooting 8-of-10 from the floor to lead FSU to the win. Emily Puskarich also chipped in 15 and Amanda Ruffner added 13 points and eight rebounds.
- In the matchup in Athens, the Falcons were led by Deidra Combs with 23 points, shooting 10-of-13 from the field. The Falcons shot over 60 percent from the field in Athens last month.
- After dropping five-straight games from Jan. 30-Feb.13, the Falcons finished the season winning three of their last four games heading into conference tournament play.
- On Monday afternoon, Fairmont State juniors Amanda Ruffner and Makenzie White were named to the All-MEC second team.
- Ruffner, a 5-10 junior forward from Proctorville, Ohio, averaged 15.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season and led the Falcons with 10 20-point scoring performances and a .571 field goal percentage. Ruffner is also second on the team with 24 blocked shots and also recorded 40 assists and 24 steals for the Falcons this season. Ruffner earned MEC Player of the Week on Nov. 23.
- White, a junior point guard from Madison, W.Va., averaged a team-high 15.4 points and 6.6 rebounds through the first 20-games of the season before suffering a season-ending injury. White shot nearly 50 percent from the field during the season and also led the team with 92 assists. White is one of just 12 players in NCAA Division II this season to record a triple-double. White received MEC Player of the Week honors on Dec. 14.
- Puskarich (11.9), Katie Nunan (11.7) and Combs (11.6) also averaged double-figures during the regular season for the Falcons. Puskarich's 68 three-pointers this season are the fourth-most in the league.
- Nunan wrapped up the regular season with two 20-point scoring performances, starting with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Glenville State on senior day last Thursday. The senior then chipped in a career-high 27 points on Saturday afternoon at Shepherd.
 
Scouting the Mountain Lions
- Concord finished the 2015-16 regular season with an overall record of 5-23 and finished 3-19 in MEC play
- The Mountain Lions started the season 3-4 before losing 19 of their last 21 games, including eight-straight.
- Danielle Catron leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. Catron has lea Concord in scoring in four of the last five games.
- Kylie Molisee averaged nearly a double-double at 11.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
- Molisee finished third in the MEC in total rebounds and finished in the top 25 in Division II in defensive rebounds per game (7.0).
