FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After falling in the opening set, Fairmont State took the next three to defeat Urbana in Mountain East Conference action at Joe Retton Arena on Friday evening.

Mackenzie Harrison led the Falcons (8-6, 2-0 MEC) with 20 kills, 15 digs, eight total blocks (three solo) and recorded a .474 attacking percentage on the evening.

Urbana (7-9, 1-2 MEC) outlasted the Falcons in the opening set that went back-and-forth before ending on a 32-30 final score in favor of Urbana.

The Falcons responded early and often in the second set, downing the Blue Knights 25-10 in the second frame. FSU also held off Urbana in the third set, winning by a tally of 25-21.

In the fourth set, the Falcons found themselves trailing, 20-17, before recording eight of the final nine kills in the set, ending the match with a 3-1 win.

Rebecca Feeney and
Breanna Blot joined Harrison in double-figures with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Feeney tied for a team-high by adding eight blocks to her stat line on the evening.

Jessica Furda helped lead the FSU offense by notching 43 assists and 13 digs to record her seventh double-double performance of the season.
Megan Clerico and
Julia Shemaitis each chipped in 12 digs for the Falcons. Shemaitis also had a big day at the service line, recording five aces in the win.

Urbana was led by Katlynn Dunlap with a team-high 14 kills and 14 digs in the losing effort. Mikaela Beck and Aleese Butler also reached double-figures with 13 kills apiece.

The Falcons will return to Joe Retton Arena at 11 a.m. on Saturday when Notre Dame College comes to town for a MEC match. Saturday is Fairmont State's Homecoming 80's Match, where all fans are encouraged to dress in their best 80's attire.
