WHEELING, W.Va. -- After over 109 minutes of scoreless action, Wheeling Jesuit's Brianna Murgi scored on a penalty kick to give the Cardinals a 1-0 double overtime victory over Fairmont State in Mountain East Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday evening at Bishop Schmidt Field.

With the loss, FSU falls to 2-3-3 overall, including a 1-3-3 mark in the MEC. WJU improves to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Wheeling Jesuit took 10 more shots than the Fairmont in the game (21-11), including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Louise Welch took five of Fairmont's 11 shot attempts in the game, including two that were on goal. Stephanie DeLawder also chipped in two shots, including one that was on goal. Alexis Lindsay, Erica Uselton, Abigail Johnson and Lake Porter recorded Fairmont's remaining shots.

Fairmont State had two excellent scoring chances late in the game, starting with the 87th minute when Lindsay got a shot off following a corner kick by Breana Wright, but the shot went high and the game remained scoreless.

FSU recorded its only scoring opportunity in overtime during the 108th minute, when Uselton recorded a header off another corner kick by Wright, however the attempt once again went high.

Fairmont State will now return home for a Homecoming matchup with West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game is a part of a doubleheader at Duvall-Rosier Field on Saturday, as the FSU football team will host UVa-Wise at 2 p.m. and the women's soccer team will meet the Bobcats in the evening to wrap up Homecoming Saturday on the FSU campus.
