FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State standout
Austin Norman added preseason accolades from the National College Baseball Writer's Association on Wednesday afternoon, being named a first team Preseason All-Atlantic Region outfielder heading into the 2018 season.
Norman was also named preseason All-America by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper earlier this month.
Norman, a first team All-MEC and second team All-Region performer in 2017, finished second on the team with a .380 batting average and 29 extra-base hits a season ago. Norman finished the year with eight home runs and 46 RBI's, recording a team-high .681 slugging percentage for FSU last season. In addition to his eight home runs, Norman also belted 16 doubles and had 15 stolen bases on the year.
For his career, Norman is batting over .350 with 19 home runs, 92 RBIs, 18 stolen bases and a career slugging percentage over .650.
Norman was just one of three players named to the first team from the Mountain East Conference, as the senior was joined by Concord's Chad Frazier and West Virginia Wesleyan's Chris Metrick.
Fairmont's opening day is quickly approaching, as the Falcons begin the season on Feb. 9 against Eastern New Mexico during the Peachtree City Baseball Classic in Atlanta, Ga.
