Falcons Take 2nd At Mister Bee Intercollegiate

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- The Fairmont State men's golf team turned in an impressive performance during the Mister Bee Intercollegiate at the Cambridge Country Club on Thursday and Friday, taking second place out of nine programs in the tournament.

The Falcons were sitting in fourth place behind Ashland, Mt. Vernon Nazarene and Wheeling Jesuit following the first day of action before improving their score by seven strokes in the final round on Friday to take second place at the event with a team score of 311 in round one and a score of 304 in round two.
 
Ashland took first place in the team results with a two-day team score of 584 – including a tournament-low 289 on Thursday during the opening round. Four of the top five individual finishers were from Ashland.
 
Chase Voithofer (80-71--151), Craig Buchanan (73-79--152) and Ben Knight (78-77--155) each turned in top-20 finishes to pace the Falcons during the tournament. Voithofer shot a tournament-low 71 in round two on Friday to finish in a tie for 10th place.
 
Braden Hammond also finished just outside of the top 20 for the tournament, with a two-day score of 157 (80-77) to finish in a tie for 22nd place.
 
Oglebay Resort Intercollegiate (April 1-2) | Results
 
The FSU men didn't have much time to rest, as the Falcons quickly returned to action on Easter Sunday during the opening round of the Oglebay Resort Intercollegiate in Wheeling, W.Va.
 
Following the opening day of action, the Falcons sat in seventh place with a team score of 304. FSU was 11 strokes back from the leader after one round of play.
 
Voithofer and Knight were just three and four shots back from the leader after the opening round of the tournament with scores of 73 and 74, respectively. Wheeling's Andrew Chlon and Charleston's Lewis Fenn each finished one-under par on Sunday afternoon (70).
 
Charleston (293) edged out Wheeling Jesuit (295) by two strokes to take the victory in the tournament as snow forced Monday's second round to be canceled.
 
Fairmont State turned in one of its top performances in several years as a participant in the Oglebay Resort Intercollegiate as Fairmont State placed 11th in last spring's tournament.
