Three Garner All-Atlantic Region Honors from D2CCA

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- A trio of Fairmont State women's soccer players garnered second team All-Atlantic Region honors from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association on Wednesday afternoon, following a vote of the region's sports information directors.

Freshman midfielder Mackenzie Gillispie, freshman goalkeeper Taylor Kennedy, and sophomore defender Ella Wilson each earned second team honors after leading the Falcons to a 13-5-2 overall record and the MEC North Division Championship. The Falcons also advanced to the MEC Tournament Championship Match this past Sunday, dropping a 2-0 final to South Division Champion, Concord University.

Gillispie, a freshman midfielder from Given, W.Va., ranked sixth in the Mountain East Conference in goals with seven during her freshman season at Fairmont State. Gillispie finished the season with seven goals and four assists in 2019, leading the Falcons with 18 total points. The freshman standout garnered MEC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 28 after scoring three goals and passing out an assist in a win over Wheeling on Oct. 23. She notched game-winning goals against Davis & Elkins (10/9) and Wheeling (10/23), and also placed 25 of her 35 shot attempts on goal during 2019 (.714 SOG%). In addition to her hat-trick against WU, Gillispie also had a big day during her second collegiate start, scoring two goals and passing out two assists against Salem. Gillispie was also a first team All-MEC selection.

Kennedy, a freshman goalkeeper from Evans, W.Va., earned first team All-MEC honors after ranking fourth in the country in shutouts (12), 14th in saves percentage (.881), and 14th in goals against average (0.491) for the 2019 season. The standout also ranked 12th in the country and first in the MEC in goalie minutes played this season (1,833). Kennedy's 12 shutouts also set a new program record for goalkeepers. Kennedy started every game for the Falcons in goal, allowing just 10 total goals and compiling a record of 13-5-2 in net. She faced 166 total shots on the year with 74 total saves. She wrapped up the season with shutouts in seven of the last nine games (including postseason). Kennedy earned MEC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 30, 2019.

Wilson, a sophomore defender from Wellington, New Zealand, finished sixth on the team in scoring with seven points during the 2019 season. Wilson chipped in two goals and three assists, and also provided the game-winning goal against West Liberty earlier this season. She also netted a goal against Wheeling back on Sept. 18. In addition, Wilson helped lead a defensive unit that ranked 12th in NCAA Division II in goals against average (0.479) and eighth in shutout percentage (0.650). Wilson earned MEC honors for the second-consecutive season after being a second team selection in 2018, and a first team pick in 2019. Wilson was the MEC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23, 2019.
