Hill Signs Professional Contract With Saranac Lake Surge

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. -- Fairmont State senior catcher Tyler Hill signed a professional contract with the Saranac Lake Surge on Wednesday afternoon. Saranac Lake is an independent league member of the Empire Professional Baseball League (EPBL).
 
In his four seasons with the Falcons, Hill batted .333 with 10 home runs and 74 runs batted-in. The three-year starter at catcher also racked up 20 doubles, 5 triples and had a career slugging percentage of .492.
 
Hill's career was highlighted by his 2018 campaign, which included a season-best .380 batting average with seven home runs and 36 runs batted-in. Hill also had eight doubles and a season-high .620 slugging percentage as a junior, earning honorable mention All-Mountain East Conference honors following the season.
 
The Surge will return to action on Friday, June 21 against the New Hampshire Wild. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Memorial Field in Concord, New Hampshire. The Empire League plays a 50 to 65 game season based on playoff qualification.
 
About the Empire Professional Baseball League
The Empire League is an Independent Professional Baseball Developmental Organization established 2015. The league operates with teams primarily out of the states of New Hampshire, New York, Puerto Rico and Maine. This league is considered a Rookie to Class A-level of minor league baseball, meant to give players out of college an educational pro experience. It is a true opportunity for players to stay in shape and be provided with the chance at being signed to higher level league contracts with affiliated or pro federation independent teams.
