Falcons Return Home To Host Alderson Broaddus Saturday

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After playing three of four on the road to start the 2021 season, the Fairmont State women's basketball team returns home to host Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
 
The game will be the first of three-straight home games for the Falcons.
 
NOTE: As previously announced by the Mountain East Conference and its 12 member institutions, Saturday's game will take place without spectators as part of the league's COVID-19 return to play protocols. All MEC events will follow the league-wide no spectator policy until at least Feb. 1, 2021.

Fairmont State Women's Basketball Notebook
  • Fairmont State and Alderson Broaddus will meet for the 62nd time on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons currently hold a 40-21 all-time series lead, including a win last season in non-conference play, 77-66, at Joe Retton Arena (11/20/19).
  • The Falcons enter Saturday's game with a 1-3 overall record after going 1-1 during the past week. The Falcons began the week with an 80-75 comeback win over West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday, before dropping a 74-63 road game against Notre Dame College on Wednesday.
  • On Monday in Buckhannon, Fairmont State outscored Wesleyan 29-13 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback for its first win of the season. Sierra Kotchman scored 13 points and Alyssa DeAngelo added 10 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Falcons to the come-from-behind victory. The duo combined for 23 of Fairmont's 29 fourth-quarter points.
  • On Wednesday in South Euclid, Notre Dame closed out Fairmont State with a big second half – grabbing the 74-63 win. Kotchman and Katy Darnell each scored 21 points against NDC to lead the Falcons.
  • In fact, Darnell finished the game with a career-high 21 points, and also matched a career-high with 12 rebounds.
  • With Kotchman's 21-point scoring performance on Wednesday night, the senior now has 1,722 career points. She needs just 49 more points to crack the top-five in school history in scoring.
  • Kotchman also ranks second in school history in career scoring average (18.7), ninth in career field goals made (588), eighth in career three-point field goal percentage (.376), and currently holds the school record for career free throw percentage (89.1).
  • In her career, Kotchman has 42 20-point scoring performances and six 30-point scoring performances.
  • This season, Kotchman leads the team in scoring (22.3), 3-point field goals made (14) and is second on the team in assists (9) and third in rebounds per game (5.3). Kotchman has scored 20 points or more in three of Fairmont's four games this season.
  • Kotchman's 22.3 points per game this season ranks ninth in NCAA Division II and third in the Mountain East Conference. Her 3.5 three-point field goals per game also rank eighth in the country and first in the MEC.
  • Darnell is second on the team in scoring at 11.0 points per game, and ranks first on the team in rebounding at 8.3 per outing. Darnell is shooting a team-high 47.7 percent from the field.
  • The Falcons are also getting big contributions from a pair of freshmen early in the season. Alyssa DeAngelo is third on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game, while Jalen Gibbs is averaging 7.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game at the forward position.
