FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Basketball goes on the road tonight for a non-conference contest with the Vulcans of The California University of Pennsylvania. The Fighting Falcons enter tonight's contest 1-0 against PSAC opponents on the season.
The Fighting Falcons opened their schedule with the Atlantic Region Crossover Tournament hosted inside Joe Retton Arena with Fairmont State splitting the weekend with a 92-68 win over Clarion and a 74-69 setback against Winston-Salem State.
Sierra Kotchman now sits in first all-time in Fairmont State school history with 2,066 career points as she surpassed Kaitlin Snyder (2009-2013) in the first half of Sunday's game with Winston-Salem State.
In Saturday's win over Clarion,
Katy Darnell came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points on 8-13 shooting and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line.
Alyssa DeAngelo, Kotchman, and
Jertaya Hall joined Darnell in double figures in points to pace the Falcons to the 92-68 win over the Golden Eagles.
SCOUTING CAL (PA)
Since the 2012 season, Cal (PA) holds the series lead, 2-1, with the Vulcans winning the last match-up 91-77 on November 16, 2019. Kotchman made six three-pointers on the night with 22 total points as
Kamrin Weimer followed with 15 points in 40 minutes of action.
The Vulcans come into this evening's game with a record of 2-0 with wins over Mountain East Conference members West Liberty and the University of Charleston over the past weekend.
Junior Guard Ciaira Loyd leads Cal U in scoring with 14.5 points per game and was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon. Brionna Allen follows with 12.5 points per game as Dejah Terrell (11.5 ppg) and Olivia Hudson (11.0 ppg) round out the Vulcans averaging double-digits in points through two games.
Jess Strom, Cal (PA) Head Women's Basketball Coach, holds an overall record of 214 wins and 61 losses with the Vulcans winning the Division II Women's Basketball National Championship in 2015.
