Men's Basketball Atlantic Region Championship Preview

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Men's Basketball is in Indiana, Pa. for the weekend as the Fighting Falcons prepare for the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball Atlantic Region Championship hosted by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

- Fairmont State is making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance (2019-20 NCAA Tournament was canceled) this season, including eight appearances in the last 10 seasons.


- In 2021, the Fighting Falcons played Mercyhurst in West Liberty's ASRC where the Lakers edged Fairmont State 62-58 in the NCAA Tournament opener.

- Fairmont State had three double-figures scorers on the evening, led by Isaiah Sanders with 18 points. Dale Bonner also chipped in 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Seth Younkin nearly recorded a double-double in the post with 10 points and eight rebounds.

- The Falcons have won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament in six of their 12 previous
appearances.

- The Falcons have also advanced to a pair of elite eights' including 2016-17 and 1997-98. Fairmont State played in the national title game in 2017, before falling to Northwest Missouri State in
the final.

- Fairmont State is 11-11 all-time in NCAA postseason play.

- Fairmont State head coach Tim Koenig will be coaching in his third NCAA Tournament game
on Saturday afternoon, after leading Notre Dame College to their first-ever appearance in the field of
64 in 2019.

- Fairmont State Men's Basketball finished No. 24 in the final edition of the 2021-22 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

- Zyon Dobbs, Isaiah Sanders, and Cole VonHandorf all received honors this afternoon as the Mountain East Conference announced the all-conference teams for the 2021-22 season. Sanders earned All-MEC First Team honors for the third year in a row while Dobbs and VonHandorf were both named to the All-MEC Second Team.

- Fairmont State and Cal (Pa.) last played on November 18, 2021, when the Falcons downed the Vulcans in California, Pa. With 50 seconds to play, Briggs Parris hit the go-ahead three-pointer to put the Fighting Falcons up 89-88 against the Vulcans. The Falcons knocked converted free throws to give the final score of 95-92 in favor of Fairmont State.

- Parris led the Falcons with 27 points on the contest scoring nine baskets with four coming from beyond the arc. Isaiah Sanders followed Parris with another 20-point night collecting 26 points on 10-19 shooting and Zyon Dobbs chipped in 20 points on 8-13 shooting. Cole VonHandorf joined his teammates in double figures with 10 points on five made baskets.
