FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State University is currently conducting a national search for its next Director of Athletics, following the transition of current Director
Greg Bamberger into a newly created executive role. Effective July 1, Bamberger will assume the position of Vice President for Athletics, where he will lead implementation planning, oversee long‑range athletic initiatives, and ensure their alignment with the University's 2025–2035 Strategic Vision.
The new Director of Athletics will oversee day‑to‑day operations, such as staff and coach supervision, compliance, budgeting, scheduling, and event operations. The position will report directly to the Vice President for Athletics and serve as the University's representative to the Mountain East Conference and the NCAA.
The search for a new Director of Athletics began in January, and the search committee has identified three finalists: Pat Snively,
Bryan Spitzer, and Amanda Larkin. Each finalist will visit campus during the week of April 13–17. Public forums will be held at McAteer's to provide campus and community members the opportunity to meet each candidate.
The forums will take place on the following dates and times:

• Wednesday, April 15 at 2:15 p.m. –
Bryan Spitzer
• Friday, April 17 at 2:15 p.m. – Amanda Larkin
About Pat Snively:
Pat Snively is a veteran Division II athletics executive with more than 20 years of experience in athletics administration, coaching, compliance, and executive leadership. He has served as Director of Athletics at Wheeling University and Davis & Elkins College, as well as Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Compliance at Fairmont State University. Across these roles, he has provided cabinet-level leadership, overseen multi-million-dollar budgets, guided enrollment-driven roster strategies, led fundraising and capital campaigns, and managed comprehensive NCAA compliance and Title IX initiatives.
In addition to his administrative leadership, Snively has extensive experience as a head coach and national championship administrator, including serving as chair of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships Committee and overseeing national championship events. He also currently serves as Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach at Fairmont State.
About Bryan Spitzer:
Bryan Spitzer has more than 15 years of experience spanning athletics administration and enrollment management. He currently serves as Fairmont State's Associate Director of Athletics for NCAA Compliance and Game Day Operations, where he maintains institutional control for compliance across all varsity sports, oversees eligibility certification, investigates potential violations, and serves as the university's liaison to the NCAA. His role also includes managing game-day operations for all home events, supporting sports communications, assisting with fundraising, and directing high-profile championship events, including the NCATA Acrobatics & Tumbling National Championship.
Prior to his work in athletics, Spitzer served as Director of Admissions & Recruitment at Fairmont State. In this role, he managed recruitment strategy and budgets, coordinated scholarships, supervised staff, led major campus events, and supported enrollment growth and student success initiatives.
About Amanda Larkin:
Amanda Larkin is a seasoned athletics administrator with nearly two decades of leadership experience across NCAA and NJCAA institutions. She currently serves as Director of Athletics at WVU Potomac State College, where she provides executive oversight of all athletic operations, including staffing, budgeting, compliance, facilities, fundraising, marketing, and event management.
Previously, Larkin spent 13 years at Davis & Elkins College as Senior Woman Administrator and Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance, where she led compliance efforts across a growing Division II athletics program, supported conference transitions, managed game-day operations, and partnered on strategic planning initiatives. Her earlier experience includes collegiate coaching and student-athlete development.
