Women's Basketball Hosts Frostburg State in MEC Regular Season Finale

Seniors Jertaya Hall and Gracey Lamm will be recognized pregame on Senior Day.

The Fairmont State women's basketball team will play in its final regular season home game on Saturday (Feb. 25) versus Frostburg State. The senior day recognition will begin at 2 p.m. and then the final home contest will follow. Jertaya Hall and Gracey Lamm are the two seniors being recognized before tipoff.
 
Fighting Falcons Facts
  • The Fighting Falcons defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 59-46 on Wednesday night. The win marked the eighth-consecutive win over WVWC.
  • The Falcons forced 20 turnovers and had 20 points off of the turnovers they forced. They currently rank 3rd in the Mountain East with a turnover margin of 4.31 and have forced 640 turnovers total.
  • Fairmont State currently sits at 9th in the Atlantic Regional Rankings with an overall record of 21-8 and 15-6 in conference play. They rank fourth in the Mountain East and have won their last seven games.
  • Fairmont State has scored an average of 79 points per game making them the eighth-highest-scoring team in Division II.
  • Alyssa D'Angelo is currently ranked fourth in scoring averages with 18.1 points per game and is tied second in the conference for total points scored with 525. She has also played a total of 1,016 minutes which is the most time any player has spent on the court in the Mountain East.
  • Katy Darnell currently ranks 13th in the conference for points per game with 14.4 while tallying 236 total rebounds which leads the team. She also leads the team with 58 total steals. Darnell also needs 36 more points to join the 1,000-point club.
  • Jalen Gibbs leads the Fighting Falcons with 38 blocked shots. Her 233 rebounds are the second-highest total behind Darnell. She finished with 17 points and three blocked shots which helped the Falcons beat the Bobcats.
  • Madeline Huffman leads the team in total assists with 91. She has made at least one three-pointer in the last thirteen games.
  • Jertaya Hall, a graduate student from Charleston, scored 12 points in 31 minutes in the win versus West Virginia Wesleyan. After averaging 7.6 points per game last year, she is now averaging 11.4 points in her senior season.
  • Aaliyah Brunny reached double-figures for the 11th time this season at West Liberty with an 11-point performance. Brunny shot 3-for-6 from the field and swiped a pair of steals. The Parkersburg Catholic alumna is averaging 8.7 points per game and is a key player off the Falcons bench.
  • Graduate student Gracey Lamm has passed 35 assists this season. She led the Falcons with six assists on Nov. 22 at West Virginia Wesleyan and passed a team-high four assists on Feb. 6 versus Bluefield State. The guard from Clarksburg, W.Va. has totaled 205 career assists at Fairmont State.
  • Head Coach Stephanie Anderson is in her fourth season leading Fairmont State women's basketball. Anderson has won 57 games during her time in charge of the program. Before coaching, Anderson led California (Pa.) to three NCAA Tournament appearances as a player.
Scouting Frostburg State
After falling to Davis & Elkins 71-65, Frostburg State prepares to take on the Fighting Falcons in the regular season finale. The Bobcats will visit Joe Retton Arena with an overall record of 8-19 and 6-15 in the Mountain East.
 
Standout freshman guard Emille Weakley looks to close out the regular season as the nation's leading scorer. She averages an astonishing 25.4 points per game while ranking ninth in the country with an average of 10.4 rebounds per game. She was held to 17 points in the loss to the Senators on Wednesday.
 
The Bobcats are led by Jenna Eckleberry, who is in her first season as the head coach of the team. She is the sixth head coach in Frostburg State's history of the program. Formerly a player for the Fighting Falcons, she coached eight seasons at Shepard where she won 118 games including a record-setting season with 25 wins and a postseason berth this past year. She has also coached two highest-scoring offenses in the past two seasons including at least one player being named All-American.
 
Up Next
The Fighting Falcons clinched a spot in the MEC Basketball Tournament, which will be held in Wheeling starting on March 1. Pairings and seedings for the conference tournament will be released by the MEC after the games have concluded on Saturday.
