MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University men's and women's swimming teams opened its 2024-25 season at the West Virginia State Games hosted by West Virginia University. The men's team finished second with 315 points while the women's team placed fourth with 114 points.
Day 1 Recap
The women's team kicked things off in the 200 Medley Relay. The group of
Alexis Antol,
Olivia Ridenour,
Zoe Hoover and
Mia Abruzzino finished eighth with a time of 1:57.76. Also, the group of
Cassidy Driver,
Marra Johnson,
Julia Bobersky and
Rachel Shryock swam it in a time of 1:59.87. Staying with the women's team Abruzzino, Alicia Perez and
Ashlyn Bennington swam in the 1,000 Free. Abruzzino finished 10th, hitting the wall in 11:26.70. Perez and Bennington were right behind with times of 11:44.24 and 11:47.82, respectively.
In the women's 200 Free, Shryock swam the event in 2:05.46. Perez and Abruzzino were next Falcons to stop the clock with times of 2:06.95 and 2:06.99, respectively. Bobersky also competed with a time of 2:12.10. The next event was the 100 Back as Hoover was the fastest Falcon with a time of 1:04.08. Antol and Bennington took part in the race with times of 1:05.24 and 1:08.66, respectively.
The next race for Fairmont State was the 100 Breast with Ridenour placing 16th with a time of 1:15.51. Johnson hit the pool and swam with a time of 1:17.08. In the 50 Free, Hoover stopped the clock at 25.97 as Antol and Ridenour swam it in 27.33 and 27.41, respectively.
Cassidy Driver and Johnson finished with times of 28.02 and 28.03.
The final event for the women's team on day one was the 400 Free Relay. The quartet of Perez, Hoover, Ridenour and Abruzzino finished the relay with a time of 3:52.63 and placed ninth-overall.
On the men's side,
Patrick Fubio,
Zackary Bishop,
Carter Redelman and
Grant Ridenour swam the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:37.68 to finish fifth. The foursome of
Zachary Groe,
Adam Demaree,
Chris Hoover and
George Ferguson placed ninth with a time of 1:42.95.
In the 1,000 Free,
Adam Fubio was the lone Falcon to swim with a time of 12:18.76. Moving to the 200 Free, Hoover completed the race with a time of 1:55.24 and in the 100 Back,
Patrick Fubio hit the wall in 51.66 to finish third. Also in the 100 Back, Redelman earned fourth as he stopped the clock at 52.41 as Ridenour and Groe swam with times of 55.64 and 56.88, respectively. Ferguson also took part in the race with a time of 58.19.
Bishop led the Falcons in the 100 Breast as he placed eighth with a time of 59.58 as Demaree finished right behind him with a time of 1:00.15. In the 200 Fly, Redelman and Ferguson finished 10th (2:04.38) and 11th (2:05.86), respectively.
Jayden Starks (2:17.38) and Groe (2:19.87) also competed in the event.
For the 50 Free, Bishop finished 11th (22.49) as Demaree was right behind him in a tie for 12th (22.52). Ridenour (22.61), Hoover (24.55), Starks (25.13) and
Adam Fubio (25.82) swam in the race. The final event of the night was the 400 Free Relay as the team of Redelman, Ridenour, Demaree and
Patrick Fubio earned fourth with a time of 3:17.89.
Day 2 Recap
On the second day of the event, the women's 400 Medley Relay of Antol, Ridenour, Bobersky and Hoover placed 10th with a time of 4:21.82. In the 100 Free, Abruzzino was the fastest Falcon with a time of 57.62.
For the 200 Back, Bennington led the team with a time of 2:23.49 and in 200 Breast, it was Driver to led FSU with a time of 2:46.66. Abruzzino once again led the team in the 500 Free, hitting the wall in 5:31.75 while Perez was right behind her with a time of 5:35.92.
In the 100 Fly, Bobersky was the lone Falcon with a time of 1:05.98. Perez placed 17th in the 200 IM, earning the spot with a time of 2:23.60. In the 200 Free Relay, Abruzzino, Ridenour, Shryock and Hoover placed 12th with a time of 1:47.84. The quartet of Driver, Bennington, Perez and Bobersky finished right behind in 13th (1:52.30).
On the men's side of the day, Redelman, Bishop,
Patrick Fubio and Demaree swam the 400 Medley Relay in 3:35.87 to place fifth. Ferguson placed 15th in the 100 Free with a time of 49.67 while in the 200 Back,
Patrick Fubio earned sixth with a time of 1:56.86. Right behind him was Redelman in seventh as he hit the wall in 1:57.45.
Moving to the 200 Breast, Demaree and Bishop finished sixth (2:16.66) and seventh (2:22.57), respectively. In the 500 Free, Hoover swam it in 5:28.66 for 13th-place.
Patrick Fubio's next race was the 100 Fly as he earned 11th with a time of 53.45 while Redelman swam it in 54.42.
In the 200 IM, Ridenour just missed out on a top 10 finish with a time of 2:06.25. The final event was the 200 Free Relay as the team of Bishop, Ridenour, Demaree and
Patrick Fubio swam it in 1:29.45 for sixth-overall. Placing 10th was the group of Ferguson, Groe, Hoover and Redelman with a time of 1:34.13.
Fairmont State will now venture to California, Pennsylvania on Saturday October 19 to face California University of Pa. and Shippensburg University. Start time is slated for 11:00 a.m.
