CANTON, Ohio -- The Fairmont State University men's and women's swimming teams took part in the Malone Invitational. The women's team finished fourth overall with 717Â points while the men's team placed third with 636.5 points.
Mia Abruzzino had a strong weekend as she placed second in the 1650 Free (18:13.30), fifth in the 500 Free (5:18.78) and sixth in the 200 Free (1:59.04).Â
Patrick Fubio also had a strong individual performance for the invitational. He took home first in the 200 Back (1:51.87), second in the 100 Back (49.89) and sixth in the 100 Fly (50.82).
Carter Redelman set a new school record with his win in the 100 Back. Redelman hit the wall in 48.93. He also placed fourth in the 200 Back, stopping the clock at 1:54.26.
Some of the other highlights for the teams on the weekend came in 200 Free Relay as the women's team placed fifth. The group of

Alexis Antol,
Rachel Shryock and
Mia Abruzzino combined for a time of 1:41.80. In the men's 200 Free Relay, the Falcons finished sixth.
Patrick Fubio,
Grant Ridenour,
Adam Demaree and
Zackary Bishop swam the event in 1:28.49.
In the 400 Free Relay, the team of
Patrick Fubio,
Grant Ridenour,
Adam Demaree and
Carter Redelman finished fourth in 3:13.08. The quartet of
Zoe Hoover, Alicia Perez,
Alexis Antol and
Mia Abruzzino placed seventh with a time of 3:44.89.
Both swimming teams will take the next month-plus to continue to perfect their craft as they will return to the pool on Saturday, January 18 at Wheeling University. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
