Riggs and Workman named CSC Academic All-District

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - Two members of Fairmont State University softball have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-District® Team.

The 2024 Fairmont State recipients are seniors Emily Riggs and Hannah Workman. Both were also selected as finalist for CSC Academic All-American.

Riggs started and played in all 53 games for the Falcons, batting .328 (44-134) with eight doubles, seven home runs and 42 runs batted in. She drew 54 walks and leads all of NCAA Division II with 1.02 walks per game.

Away from the field, Riggs graduated this past spring with a bachelors degree in nursing after earning her associates in 2022. She earned Cum Laude honors for both and is a three-time member of the President's List.

Workman appeared in 49 games this season with 48 starts in the outfield. She finished the year with a .373 batting average (56-150), scoring 39 runs and stealing 30 bases out of 32 attempts.

In the classroom, Workman graduated this spring with a degree in biology as she was a member of both the Biology Honors Society and American Chemistry Society. She is also a three-time member of the All-MEC Academic Team.

The CSC Academic All-District® honor recognizes student-athletes of at least sophomore academic standing who hold a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and are starters or major contributors on their teams. Honorees are nominated by their institution's athletic communication director, and a select group of All-District honorees will advance to the national ballot, where CSC members will vote on the prestigious Academic All-America® team.
