BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The Fairmont State men's tennis team looked to continue its run at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship. The pairing of
Elia Barozzi and
Gabriel Masu had a strong performance in the semifinals to qualify for the finals.
In the Men's Open Doubles draw,
Elia Barozzi and
Gabriel Masu faced the eighth-seeded pair of Mika Kreisel and Jed Platts from West Virginia Wesleyan. Barozzi/Masu cruised to a 6-1 victory. The other semifinal matchup was
Hugo Massoni and
Mohamed El Helaly faced top-seeded Jorge Perez and Marcelo Pinto out of the University of Charleston. Massoni and El Helaly fell by the score of 6-3 setting up an all Mountain East Conference final.
On the singles side,
Kan Watanabe was the remaining Falcon as he faced Jorge Perez in the quarterfinals. Perez got the better of Watanabe in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Barozzi and Masu will play the finals tomorrow morning with a chance to advance to the National Championships hosted by Berry College in Rome, Georgia on October 11 through the 14.
