WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University men's and women's swimming teams returned to action against Mountain East Conference foes, Wheeling University. The men's team bested the Cardinals, 131-123, as the women fell by the score of 164-87.
On the men's side, the relay of
Carter Redelman,
Zackary Bishop,
Patrick Fubio and
Adam Demaree got things started for the Falcons in the 200 Medley. The group claimed first place with a time of 1:37.71.
Patrick Fubio on the day took home top honors in the 200 Free (1:48.83) and the 200 Back (1:56.84) while also taking home second in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.32.
Fairmont State had a strong performance in the 100 Back as
Carter Redelman,
Grant Ridenour and
Zachary Groe finished first, second and third, respectively.
George Ferguson picked up two more wins for FSU in the 200 Fly (2:08.43) and the 400 IM (4:30.29). The final event of the day was the 200 Free Relay as
Adam Demaree,
Chris Hoover,
George Ferguson and
Zackary Bishop placed second, stopping the watch at 1:34.93.
The women's team started with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of
Alexis Antol,
Olivia Ridenour,
Marra Johnson and
Zoe Hoover hit the wall in 1:58.97.
Alexis Antol claimed to the top spot in the 100 Back with a time of 1:04.75.
Mia Abruzzino had a strong day in the pool as she finished second in the 1,000 Free (11:14.73) and the 500 Free (5:31.07).
Zoe Hoover was the top finisher in the 100 Free as she swam the race in 55.74 while
Olivia Ridenour also picked up a victory in the 100 Breast (1:15.03). In the 200 Free Relay, the team of
Zoe Hoover,
Alexis Antol,
Rachel Shryock and
Mia Abruzzino finished second with a time of 1:45.48.
Fairmont State returns to the Mahaney Natatorium on Saturday, January 25 as it will face Malone University and WVU Tech. Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
