FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State turned in a dominant performance against Salem on Wednesday evening at Mahaney Natatorium, sweeping nearly every event on the women's side and showcasing depth across both individual races and relays.
The Falcons set the tone early in the 400-yard medley relay, with Fairmont State's "A" squad touching first in 3:46.99, while the "B" team followed closely behind in 3:55.19. That momentum carried into the individual events, where Fairmont State claimed first place in all but one race.
Emily Durst opened the individual victories by winning the 200 freestyle in 2:15.04, while Maitlyn Miller highlighted a strong sprint showing by capturing the 50 freestyle in 25.25, with Delaney Householder finishing second. Rachel Shryock continued the Falcons' success with a win in the 100 butterfly (1:02.02), and Zoe Hoover followed with a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle at 59.32.
In distance events, Mia Abruzzino won the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:33.56, while teammate Veronica Mann placed second. Abruzzino later anchored the winning 200 free relay, helping Fairmont State's "A" team post a time of 1:44.10.
The Falcons also swept the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke, with Olivia Ridenour winning the event in 1:14.97 and Marra Johnson finishing close behind. Fairmont State closed the meet strong in the relays, placing both teams atop the results in the 200 free relay to cap an impressive night.
Fairmont State travels to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, January 31. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
