FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The 25th-ranked Fairmont State University men's tennis team faced Edinboro University. After dropping the doubles point, the Falcons battled back to defeat the Fighting Scots, 4-3.
In doubles, the Falcons were only able to win one matchup. The No. 2 duo of
Keagan Karungagaran and
Gabriel Masu picked up a solid 6-3 win, but Fairmont State dropped tight contests at No. 1 (6-4) and No. 3 (6-0), putting them behind early in the match.
The momentum quickly shifted once singles play began, as Fairmont State claimed four of the six matches to take control.
Kusunoki Haruto led the charge at No. 1 with a gritty three-set victory, bouncing back after dropping the second set to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Gabriel Masu followed with a strong performance at No. 3, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win.
Karungagaran added another key point at No. 4, battling through a three-set match (6-3, 1-6, 6-3), while
Mohamed El Helaly was dominant at No. 5 with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Fairmont State (10-1) hits the road on Wednesday, April 1 to face West Virginia Wesleyan in the first conference match of the season. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
