WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's tennis team battled West Liberty University on the road. The Falcons established early control for the 5-0 victory.
The Falcons wasted no time establishing control by securing the doubles point in convincing fashion.
Hope Backx and
Lara Smith rolled to a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, while
Maria Fonseca and
Stephanie Gopar matched that score with a 6-1 win in the No. 2 position.

In singles action, Fairmont State continued its commanding form, winning all four completed matches in straight sets. Fonseca led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 decision, and Backx followed with a strong 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2. Gopar and Smith were especially dominant in the middle of the lineup, each posting flawless 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
Fairmont State (12-6, 3-1) returns to campus to host Davis & Elkins College on Friday, April 24. The match is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
