FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University men's tennis team turned in a strong all-around performance on Friday, sweeping doubles play and winning four singles matches to earn a convincing victory over Davis & Elkins.
The Falcons established control early by capturing the doubles point with wins across all three courts.
Kusunoki Haruto and
Noah Liedtke set the tone with a 6-4 victory at No. 1, while
Keagan Karungagaran and
Gabriel Masu followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2.
Mohamed El Helaly and
Gustavo Masu completed the sweep at No. 3 with another 6-4 decision, giving Fairmont State a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
In singles competition, the Falcons secured four wins to seal the match. Haruto battled back after dropping the first set to earn a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory at the top spot.
Gabriel Masu also went the distance at No. 2, responding to a second-set setback with a strong 6-2 finish in the third. Karungagaran delivered a steady performance at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win, while El Helaly dominated his match at No. 5, cruising to a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Noah Liedtke dropped a competitive match at No. 4 in straight sets, and
Gustavo Masu was edged in a marathon three-set battle at No. 6, falling 17-15 in the deciding super tiebreak.
Fairmont State (15-3, 3-2) concludes the regular season on Sunday, April 26 against Frostburg State University. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
