FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University men's tennis team faced Frostburg State University in the regular season finale. The Falcons delivered a dominant all-around performance, sweeping the Bobcats, 7-0.
The Falcons set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins at all three positions. At No. 1, Kusunoki Haruto and Noah Liedtke secured a 6-3 victory, while the No. 2 tandem of Keagan Karungagaran and Gabriel Masu followed with a 6-2 win. Mohamed El Helaly and Gustavo Masu capped the sweep at No. 3 with a 7-6 (7-4) decision to give Fairmont State a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles, Fairmont State continued to control the match, winning all six courts. Kusunoki Haruto battled to a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at the top spot, and Gabriel Masu earned a hard-fought victory at No. 2 after dropping the first set, rallying 4-6, 6-0 before securing the match via opponent retirement.
Karungagaran picked up a three-set win at No. 3 (6-2, 5-7, 6-4), while Liedtke cruised at No. 4 with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance. El Helaly controlled his match at No. 5, winning 6-4, 6-0, and Gustavo Masu closed out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
Fairmont State (16-3, 4-2) awaits to see where it will be seeded in the Mountain East Conference Championship. The championship starts on Saturday, May 2 from Charleston, West Virginia.
