BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia State took games three of four of the Mountain East Conference series with Fairmont State on Monday afternoon to win the series 3-1.
On the day, the Falcons were held to just four hits in the doubleheader and fell in both games, 5-0. In the first game of the day, FSU got hits from
Alex Levitan,
Nic Rush and
Trevor Malnick, but the Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the first three innings to run away with the win.
Tyler Hall (1-1) picked up the win for WVSU on the hill, allowing just three hits and walking one batter.
In game two of the day, FSU had just four base runners and recorded just one hit in the 5-0 loss. Fairmont State's lone hit came off the bat of
Adam Meeker.
WV State scored on four runs on RBI singles by four players in the opening inning of game two to just out to n early 4-0 lead. Phillip Mandt hit a solo home run to left field in the fourth inning to give WV State its fifth run of the game.
William Ore pitched a one-hit shutout to improve to 2-2 on the season for the Yellow Jackets.
Nick Opferman (0-1) suffered the loss for FSU in game one on the mound, while Rush (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season in game two for FSU.
The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Glenville State for an MEC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
