AVON, Ohio -- The Fairmont State baseball team dropped a four-game series with Notre Dame College, 3-1, on Saturday and Sunday afternoon in Avon, Ohio.
In game one of the series, Notre Dame College scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to wrap up the 3-2 win. FSU tied the game in to top of the seventh when Frankie Wilson drove home
Trevor Malnick and
Darrin Zombro brought home
Nic Rush on a sacrifice bunt later in the inning.
In game two on Saturday, Fairmont State picked up the 2-1 victory in extra innings to split the opening day of the series. NDC scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Shane DeFranco.
The Falcons tied the game in the top of the sixth when Malnick singled to deep center field to bring home
Josh Wine from second. Wine then provided the game-winning RBI for the Falcons in the top of the ninth to bring home
Christian Hedinger.
Fairmont State dropped game three of the series with Notre Dame after being held scoreless and were limited to just five hits in the 4-0 loss. NDC scored three runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to complete the low-scoring game.
Notre Dame jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead after two innings in the fourth and final game of the series, tallying a triple and two doubles early in the game. Rush put the Falcons on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single to score
Adam Meeker but NDC picked up the 6-1 victory.
