- The Fairmont State men's basketball team will host 8th-ranked West Liberty on Sunday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. Both teams come into Sunday's game with 5-0 records in Mountain East Conference play.
- The Falcons come into the game riding a seven-game winning streak after rolling over Wheeling Jesuit, 95-80, on Wednesday evening on the road. The Falcons dominated the paint by outscoring the Cardinals 58-36 down low. Fairmont State also held a 48-33 rebounding advantage in the victory.
- The Falcons have won each of the last two meetings with West Liberty at Joe Retton Arena, including a 98-97 win on Jan. 28, 2018, and an 86-81 victory on Dec. 4, 2016. Fairmont State holds an 86-66 all-time series record over the Hilltoppers in a series that began back in 1925.
- Senior Jason Jolly is currently averaging a team-high 19.3 points per game this season, and currently ranks fourth in the country in three-pointers made (34) and 34th in total points (174). Jolly is averaging 3.8 three-point field goals per game, which ranks 15th in the country.
- Vonte Montgomery (12.7), Cole VonHandorf (11.1) and Andrew Emrick (10.4) are also averaging double-figures this season for the Falcons.
- Montgomery is currently second on the team in scoring, and first in both rebounds per game (6.1) and total assists (33).
- A different player has led the Falcons in scoring in each of the last three games. R.J. Emrick led the Falcons in scoring three games ago against Glenville State with 16.
- In all, five different players have led the Falcons in scoring this season.
- The Falcons will face a stiff test on the defensive end of the floor as the high-scoring Hilltoppers currently rank second in the country in scoring offense (106.5), fifth in field goal percentage (52.7) and third in 3-point field goals per game (12.8).
- On the other hand, the Falcons currently rank second in the high-scoring MEC, allowing just 76.2 points per game this season.
- Dalton Bolon currently ranks 21st in the country with 184 points this season (23.0 ppg).
- Fairmont State's last win over a top-10 opponent came last season against then-No. 1 West Liberty, 98-97, on Jan. 28, 2018 in Fairmont. Montgomery led the Falcons in scoring during that victory with 24 points.
- The Falcons, who are 5-0 at home this season, have won 41 of their last 42 games at Joe Retton Arena. The only loss during the stretch was against UC on Feb. 15, 2018 – a 78-65 setback.
