Fairmont State Wrestling Announces 2020 Recruiting Class

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State head wrestling coach Chris Freije announced the addition of 25 student-athletes that will be joining his program during the 2020-21 season.

Freije's 2020 recruiting class includes athletes from five different states, nine transfers and the 25 standout wrestlers accounted for over 50 trips to the state wrestling championships in Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The class also includes over 40 state medals, and accounts for more than 10 state finals appearances during their high school careers.

"We're excited to sign this first wave of quality individuals that will be joining our program this fall," said Freije. "We also have a few more commitments, and some other irons in the fire who we expect to officially announce in the coming weeks. All of these young men will be great additions to the already strong cast of student-athletes we have on campus, and will absolutely add a competitive edge in the practice room."

"Our goal is to build this program around work ethic and character with wrestlers from within state lines, and then expand outwards. We feel like we're doing that, and it's a testament to the time our staff consistently puts in, the passion for wrestling on campus, and the quality of education at Fairmont State University," Freije added.

The 2020 recruiting class includes 19 individuals from West Virginia, two from Ohio, and one from Maryland, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Fairmont State relaunched its wrestling program in March of 2019 and began competing in the Mountain East Conference on the NCAA Division II level in November of 2019. Fairmont State will open its second year of competition this coming winter.
