Fairmont State Swim Teams Down Salem

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- On Friday night, the Fairmont State men's and women's swim teams both grabbed victories over visiting Salem University inside the Feaster Center Pool. The men's squad won 145-116 over the Tigers of Salem and the women's team picked up a 140-110 decision over Salem.

The Maroon and White picked up 16 total victories on the night with multiple individuals earning multiple wins.

Zsofi Bevardi continued her winning ways as she won four events she took part in with three individual victories and one relay win. Bevardi started the night with a victory in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a time of 18:06.65 as Fairmont swept the first three positions with Salma Nuino Galan placing second, 19:36.16, and Kaitlyn Stumpf with a time of 20:14.18 for third place. Bevardi added another win in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:01.92) and the 500y Free (5:23.24) rounding out her individual performances.

In the 400y freestyle relay, Bevardi and Stumpf joined Eulalia Castan and Alexis Antol for a first place with a finish of 3:57.48.

Nuino Galan earned a first-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 30.21 to round out an impressive night of her own with three runner-up places on the night.

Alexis Antol added three victories to her night as well with individual wins in the 50-yard backstroke (29.07) and the 100y back (1:03.36). Antol concluded her night with a relay victory in the 400y free with Bevardi, Castan, and Stumpf.

On the men's side, Fairmont State started on the right foot with a win in the 200y free relay made of Patrick Fubio, Majester Abdul-Jalil, Pedro Gaspar, and Nathan Fubio with a finish of 1:37.44.

Abdul-Jalil carried over his relay into his individual events with victories in the 50y back (27.28) and100-yard breaststroke (59.65). Abdul-Jalil ended the evening in Feaster Center Pool with a second place in the 400y freestyle relay with Tyler Virtue, Josep Castan, and Gaspar with a time of 3:20.40 with Salem being first in the wall at 3:19.54.

Josep Castan joined his fellow teammates with multiple victories in the pool in the 100y fly (55.80) and 50y fly (24.76).

Fairmont State Swimming is back in action on November 18 through November 20 when they head to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State.
