Fighting Falcons Host Concord in MEC Matchup

Concord Game Notes

- Fairmont State started the month of December ranked ninth in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) rankings. The Fighting Falcons are joined in the national poll by fellow Mountain East Conference member West Liberty who is now at No. 14. 

- Men's Basketball is also ranked second in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional Poll that was released on Monday afternoon. Indiana (Pa.) has six first place votes and was designated in first for the third week of the release. 

- Fairmont State holds the all-time series record over West Virginia State, 84-38, with the latest win coming last season as the Falcons won 90-68 inside Joe Retton Arena on February 8th, 2021. Cole VonHandorf led all scorers on the evening with 21 points as he was 8-13 from the field. Fairmont State held Concord to 37.1% from the floor as the Falcons shot 50.0% from the field themselves. 

- The Fighting Falcons started the season with five straight wins to open the 2021-22 season. The Falcons are now 3-1 in conference play and defeated a quality Atlantic Region opponent, California (Pa.) on November 18th to keep their undefeated mark.

 - Isaiah Sanders collected his 1,000th point as a Falcon on Saturday afternoon as Fairmont State rallied in the second half to down West Virginia State 83-71. Sanders led all scorers with 25 points and has 1,009 points at Fairmont State- Fairmont State is the number one scoring defense in the MEC while only allowing opponents to score 68.7 points per game. The Falcons are third in scoring offense averaging 83.4 points per game in seven games. Concord is averaging 80.2 ppg and allows opponents to score 83.4 points per game, which is ninth in the Mountain East Conference.

- Tim Koenig enters his third season as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Fairmont State and carries an overall record of 44-13 at Fairmont State.

Fairmont State Men's Basketball (6-1, 3-1 MEC) is back in action on Monday, December 13th at Glenville State for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
