Falcons Set Three Pool Records On Saturday

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State swimming split its home-opening meet with Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons took down three Feaster Center Pool records during the meet.
 
Zsofi Bevardi shattered the pool record in both the 500 Freestyle (5:09.04) and 1650 Freestyle (17:26.27) events, while Majester Abdul-Jalil broke the record in the men's 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:09.44. Bevardi broke the record in the 500 Free during her record-breaking swim in the 1650.
 
In the team scoring, the Falcons topped Frostburg State in men's events by a score of 137-117. The Bobcats edged the Fairmont State women by one point, 122-121. Both the Fairmont State men and women are now 4-1 in dual meets this season.
 
In addition to his record-breaking swim in the 200 Breaststroke, Abdul-Jalil was also victorious in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 58.17. Ricard Castan also claimed a pair of first-place finishes in the 1650 Freestyle (17:56.12) and 200 Backstroke (2:06.18).
 
Pedro Gaspar was also the first to touch the wall in the men's 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:48.73, and Nathan Fubio cruised to a win in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23.12 seconds.
 
The relay team of Castan, Tyler Virtue, Abdul-Jalil and Gaspar took first in the 200 Medley Relay to open the meet as the Falcons and Bobcats split the two relay events.
 
The Falcon men took first place in seven of 14 events during Saturday's meet.
 
Alexis Antol paced the Fairmont State women during the meet with a trio of individual event victories in the 100 Backstroke (1:05.42), 100 Freestyle (58.02) and 200 IM (2:24.97). Bevardi and Kayla Fogle also added two victories apiece for the Falcons. Bevardi was victorious in the 1650 with her pool record time, and was also the first to touch the wall in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:16.59. Fogle took first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:40.73) and 100 Butterfly (1:04.91).
 
The Falcon women also took first place in the 200 Medley Relay with the team of Antol, Fogle, Bevardi and Eulalia Castan finishing with a time of 1:58.87. The teams split the relay events with Frostburg winning the 400 Free Relay.
 
The Fairmont State women took first place in eight of 14 events on the afternoon.
 
Fairmont State will wrap up the dual-meet portion of its schedule on Saturday, March 13 against West Virginia Wesleyan. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at the Feaster Center Pool.
