BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State women's tennis program has been selected fourth in the Mountain East Conference preseason poll after a vote by the league's coaches. The University of Charleston was picked first overall as the Golden Eagles finished atop the poll with 35 points and five first-place votes.
The Fighting Falcons return three members who earned All-MEC accolades for the 2021 season with
Ainara Pastor Garcia,
Isadora Matos, and
Candela Sevilla. Pastor Garcia, a senior from Javea, Spain, garnered first-team honors for Fairmont State while picking up four wins in singles matches and four wins in doubles play in spring 2021. Matos and Sevilla collected All-MEC Second-Team honors for their play in spring 2021.
Fairmont State Women's Tennis made its fall debut on September 12th, 2021 when the Falcons topped Seton Hill, 6-1. Seniors Ainara Pastor and
Isadora Matos teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles, while juniors
Candela Sevilla and
Mackenzie Sorton were victorious at No. 2 doubles. Pastor, Matos, Sevilla, Sorton, and senior
Trang Hong Nguyen continued the strong showing for the Falcons, with each earning wins in their first singles matches of the year.
Fairmont State begins its spring season on February 28th in Hilton Head, South Carolina in the Spring Break Tennis Fest with Hanover College. The Falcons return to Fairmont State to face Bloomsburg University on March 14th.
The top four teams in the regular season advance to the MEC Tournament that will be held April 30-May 1 in Charleston, W.Va.
