Fairmont, W. VA., -- Wrestling hosts their first ever Maroon vs White Wrestle-Offs. There was a nice crowd to see this new Fairmont State Wrestling team compete for the first time. There are a lot of new faces that will make appearances in this years lineup.
Starting things off was Freshman Mikey Jones vs Redshirt Sophomore Esdras Castillo at 141 pounds. There were a few nice scrambles but Mikey Jones took control of the match and looked very good on top. Mikey ended up winning this bout by fall.
Next up was 197 pound wrestle off between Freshman Aydan Edwards and Freshman Chase Blaney. Impressive display of takedowns and mat returns by Aydan Edwards lead to his victory by fall.
The next bout was Redshirt Sophomore Brandan Myers vs Freshman Jasup Spragg at 125. Myers showed off some impressive takedowns and top work to win this bout by decision 7-0.
They then moved right into the 133 bout between Sophomore Nate Pelesky and Redshirt Freshman Austin Brett. They went back and forth in the first period but Pelesky got a nice takedown on the edge and didn't look back. Pelesky showed impressive top work as well that led to a 13-3 major decision win.
Up next was the 157 pound wrestle off where Sophomore Navid Ighani faced off with Freshman Jude Childers. Another back and forth battle in the first period but Navid Ighani won an impressive scramble to take the early lead. Ighani with an impressive ride rode out Childers the rest of the 1st period and 2nd Period. Ighani added on another takedown with win this one 5-0.
There was also a few exhibition matches as well. Redshirt Junior Austin Gibson faced off with Freshman Evan Thompson. Gibson put together a few nice takedowns before hitting a nice transition from feet to back to win this one by fall. Junior Addison Courtney made his debut against Esdras Castillo and hit a nice counter in a scramble to win this one by fall. Freshman Heavyweight Mason Atkinson capped off the day winning by fall over Chase Blaney.
Your Fighting Falcons officially get underway November 1st where they travel to Alderson Broaddus for the 5th Annual Hams and Slams event. Action will start at 1:00 PM
