FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Fairmont State wrestling team (4-2, 3-0 Mountain East Conference) edged MEC foe Davis & Elkins on Wednesday (Nov. 9) night at Joe Retton Arena in Fairmont, W.Va.Â
Brandon Myers started the night by collecting a win by forfeit in the 125-pound weight class. Nate Pelesky, a sophomore from Boswell, Pa., started the night by defeating his opponent via a fall in 4:21 to give Fairmont State an early 12-0 advantage. Mikey Jones took a win by forfeit in the 141-pound weight class to increase FSU's lead to 18-0.Â
The Senators took six points in the 149-pound dual. Esdras Castillo won the 157-pound class by forfeit. D&E collected four additional points in the 165-pound bout to cut the deficiet to 24-10. Evan Thompson brought six points for the Falcons after a forfeit in the 174-pound weight class and the Falcons led 32-10.Â
In the final three matchups of the night, Austin Gibson earned three points for the Falcons after winning a 2-0 decision in the 184-pound class. Freshman Aydan Edwards from Parkersburg, W.Va. defeated his opponent by fall in the 197-pound bout for another six points for Fairmont State. Mason Atkinson capped off the night with win that gave the Falcons a 43-10 home victory.Â
The Fairmont State wrestling team will compete in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational this Saturday (Nov. 12) in Washington, Pa.
