DANVILLE, Va. – The Fairmont State wrestling team took third place at the Averett Cougar Duals on Sunday (Dec. 11) in Danville, Va. Fairmont State won third place at the event out of 10 teams.
 
The Falcons went 5-1 in the event and beat every team they faced on the day. Fairmont State kicked the day off with a 33-18 win over Saint Andrews. Brandon Myers, Caleb Everhart, Austin Gibson and Aydan Edwards all won via the fall in the Saint Andrews match. In the second dual of the day, Averett knocked off Fairmont State, 37-9. Evan Thompson collected a win by fall versus Averett.
 
The Falcons came back strong and ripped off a 44-12 win over Emory & Henry. Everhart and Jude Childers all won 6-0 and defeated their opponents. The Falcons cruised to a pair of victories over Patrick & Henry Community College (50-3) and Southwest Virginia Community College (60-0) that placed them in the third-place match versus Averett to close out the day.
 
In the second match versus Averett, Nate Pelesky defeated his opponent in a 6-1 decision to even the match score at 3-3. Austin Brett wrestled in the 141 lbs. class and won in a 6-2 decision that put the Fighting Falcons in the lead, 6-3. Everhart continued his strong day and claimed an 8-7 decision to give an additional three points to Fairmont State. Thompson, Gibson and Edwards won by decision and Fairmont State won the third-place match, 19-18.
 
Everhart won every match and went a perfect 6-0 at the event. Pelesky (5-1), Thompson (5-1) Gibson (5-1) and Edwards (4-1) all had very impressive days on the mat.
 
The Fairmont State wrestling team will be back in action when it will square off versus West Virginia in Morgantown on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
