Fairmont State Men's Basketball Set to Continue its Non-Conference Slate

The Fighting Falcons will play three games in as many days versus non-conference opponents beginning on Saturday (Dec. 17).

The Fairmont State men's basketball team (5-1, 3-1 Mountain East Conference) is set to play in three games in as many days beginning on Saturday (Dec. 17) when the Falcons will welcome Felician to Joe Retton Arena at 2 p.m. The Falcons will turn around and play Penn State Greater Allegheny on Dec. 18 at noon in Fairmont. The trio of games will conclude on Monday (Dec. 19) when Fairmont State will travel for an exhibition contest at Bowling Green for an 11 a.m. tipoff.

The Fairmont State home games on Saturday and Sunday will be streamed on MEC TV and will be aired on Sky 106.5. The Fighting Falcons' exhibition game at Bowling Green will not be streamed. Fighting Falcons Facts
  • The Falcons came out on top in Tuesday (Dec. 13) night's road game at Shippensburg, defeating the Raiders 86-85 in overtime. Zyon Dobbs sank the go-ahead free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining in the overtime period. The Falcons ended a three-game losing streak with the win.
  • Fairmont State entered this stretch with the eighth-best scoring offense in the country. The Falcons have scored an average of 89.4 points per game. Fairmont State's field goal percentage (48.5%) paces the Mountain East Conference.
  • The Falcons lead all MEC teams in rebound margin and have outrebounded opponents by an average of 6.7 boards per contest.
  • Isaiah Sanders has made an average of 3.67 three-pointers per game. His average leads the conference and is the second-highest mark out of all Division II players. The Sicklerville, N.J. native leads the Falcons in scoring (19.7 ppg) and netted his 2,000th career point on Dec. 10 versus Glenville State.
  • Tariq Woody has made 67.1% of field goals this season, which leads the MEC. Woody's field goal percentage is the seventh-highest in the nation. He is averaging 11.3 points per game and has tracked down an average of 5.6 rebounds per game.
  • Fonz Hale's led the Falcons in points (18), assists (6) and steals (3) in Tuesday's game at Shippensburg. The transfer from Salem has the highest assist total (42) out of any Fairmont State player. His 4.7 assists/game average is the third-highest in the MEC.
  • George Mangas (12.2 ppg) and Zyon Dobbs (10.6 ppg) both average above double-digit scoring averages. Mangas is the team's leading rebounder and grabs an average of 6.1 rebounds per game. Dobbs has forced 13 steals and has distributed 34 assists.
  • Newcomer David Jolinder is averaging 1.11 blocks/game in his first collegiate season. Jolinder's 10 blocks lead the Falcons. He has averaged 9.6 points per game and has secured 42 rebounds.
  • Connellsville, Pa. native Seth Younkin has pulled down 52 rebounds in the first nine games of the season. Younkin has swatted eight blocks.
  • Tommy Williams has drilled seven triples and is shooting 30.4% from beyond the arc.
  • Fairmont State head coach Tim Koenig enters his fourth season in charge of the men's basketball team. Koenig has won 67 games leading the Falcons.
 
Scouting Felician
Felician is making the trip to North Central West Virginia from Rutherford, N.J. The Golden Falcons are the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions. Felician has opened the 2022-23 season with a 3-6 record and fell to MEC member Frostburg State on Nov. 26, 96-87.
 
The Felician offense starts with redshirt-junior guard Anas Amos. Amos leads the Golden Falcons with 14.9 points per game and is shooting 40.0% from the field. The Newark, N.J. native enters Saturday's contest with a team-high 3.7 assists/game. On the glass, senior Ebuka Nnagbo is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 7.1 boards per game. Opponents are outscoring Felician by an average of 3.1 points. The Golden Falcons lead their conference in turnovers per game and surrender 12.3 turnovers per contest.
 
Ivan Lewis, a 2004 graduate of Felician, begins his seventh season leading the Golden Falcons. Lewis was promoted to the full-time position after serving as the team's associate head coach.
 
Scouting Penn State Greater Allegheny
Penn State Greater Allegheny has competed in 17 games this season and will travel to Fairmont with a 5-12 record. PSUGA competes in the USCAA.
 
Devin Green has averaged 13.0 points per game and has shot 82.4% from the charity stripe. Bryce Phillips has pulled down an average of 8.3 rebounds per game and Christopher Killings has passed 2.1 assists per game and tracked down 1.6 steals per game. Opponents are outscoring PSUGA by over 11 points.

The head coach of Penn State Greater Allegheny is Daryn Freedman. Freedman was last the associate head men's basketball coach at Point Park in Pittsburgh.
 
Scouting Bowling Green
Bowling Green State University men's basketball posted a 4-6 record in the first ten contests of the season. Last time on the floor, Bowling Green pushed Norfolk State to the brink and almost snapped a 16-game home winning streak for the Spartans. Norfolk State survived and won 81-75 in Virginia. Bowling Green will welcome UT Martin to Ohio on Saturday before the exhibition versus Fairmont State.
 
In 2021, Fairmont State took Bowling Green to overtime. Fairmont State fell 91-89 in the exhibition game on Nov. 4, 2021, at Bowling Green. Sanders finished with a game-high 27 points and Mangas threw in 21 points in last year's meeting.
 
The BGSU scoring is organized through Leon Ayers III and Samari Curtis. Ayers III has scored an average of 15.3 points per game while Curtis has posted 13.2 points per game. Junior forward Rashaun Agee has hauled in 70 rebounds and has swatted 11 blocks in the team's first 10 games.
 
Michael Huger has started his eighth season in charge of Bowling Green men's basketball. Before his coaching journey, Hugar played for legendary men's basketball coach Jim Larrañaga at BGSU from 1989-1993 and led Bowling Green to multiple NIT appearances. Huger followed Larrañaga and was an assistant under him at Miami (Fla.) from 2011-15 and George Mason from 2007-11.
