CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- On Saturday afternoon, Fairmont State men's tennis took on West Liberty University in the Mountain East Conference Semifinals inside the Charleston Tennis Club. The Hilltoppers won the match 4-0.
WLU will now face the one-seeded University of Charleston tomorrow afternoon in the MEC Finals scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Fighting Falcons were down 1-0 to start the singles portion of the match after West Liberty won the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches by a score of 6-2. The No. 3 court with Falcons
Kan Watanabe and
Jacob Boone went unfinished with the match at four-all.
West Liberty secured the match victory at 4-0 with straight-set wins at the No.2,5, and 6 courts. In the matches that did not finish, Fairmont State won the first set in all three matches.
Bartosz Losiak held a 7-6, 0-1 advantage at the No.1 singles position and Watanabe also held a lead at the No. 3 court at 7-6, 2-0.
Seena Saadevandi won the first set 6-4, but the match went unfinished.
Fairmont State men's tennis will now wait to see if it will be selected for the NCAA Division II Tournament with the selection show slated for May 3. The Falcons were ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings.
