BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Fairmont State men's basketball guard
Isaiah Sanders was selected as the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, the conference revealed on Monday (Jan. 16). The MEC Player of the Week is presented by The Health Plan.
Sanders garnered the team's first player of the week of the season after two impressive performances. On Wednesday (Jan. 11), Sanders netted 17 points and passed a season-high seven assists in the Fighting Falcons' road win at Wheeling. In Saturday's (Jan. 14) matchup versus No. 8 West Liberty, Sanders led all scorers with 30 points and hit nine of 12 attempts from the field in a 25-point victory over the Hilltoppers. The Sicklerville, N.J. native tallied the most steals (4), assists (5) and rebounds (7) in Fairmont State's first win over a ranked opponent this season.
The graduate student is Fairmont State's leading scorer and is averaging 18.6 points per game. Sanders was named to the 2023 Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List on Sunday (Jan. 15). The award recognizes the top player who had the best season from NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA.
Sanders and the Fairmont State men's basketball team will return to the floor on Wednesday (Jan. 18) night when they will meet Davis & Elkins at Joe Retton Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m.
