The Fairmont State men's basketball team continues its Mountain East Conference schedule this week by hosting Davis & Elkins on Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons will head to Maryland on Saturday (Jan. 21) for a 4 p.m. game at Frostburg State.

Fighting Falcons Facts
- Fairmont State earned a signature victory on Saturday (Jan. 14) versus No. 8 West Liberty. The Falcons shot 51.6% from beyond the arc and held WLU to 30% shooting from three-point range in the 25-point win. The loss was West Liberty's largest defeat since 2018. It was the largest Fairmont State victory over the Hilltoppers since the 1994-95 season when Fairmont State defeated WLU 95-66 at Joe Retton Arena.
- Entering Wednesday, the Falcons hold a 12-4 overall record and a 7-3 conference record. Fairmont State sits in fourth place in the MEC standings.
- Fairmont State was ranked 7th in the Atlantic Region in the Jan. 16 D2SIDA Men's Basketball Division II Media Poll.
- The Fairmont State high-powered offense ranks fourth in the nation in scoring (93.4 points per game) and second in three-pointers made per game (11.8). The Fighting Falcons lead the Mountain East Conference free throw percentage (77.0%) and three-point percentage (41.4%).
- Following a season-high 30-point performance versus West Liberty, Isaiah Sanders was named MEC Player of the Week. He was the first Fighting Falcon to be recognized for the honor this season. Sanders added seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and a blocked shot while not committing a turnover in the Fairmont State win.
- Sanders' 59 three-point baskets rank third in the country and lead the MEC. The Fighting Falcons' leading scorer (18.4 points per game) has made 48.4% of his three-point attempts this season.
- Sanders was named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List on Sunday (Jan. 15). The award recognizes the top player from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA.
- Fairmont native Zyon Dobbs leads the Fighting Falcons with 87 rebounds and 76 assists. Dobbs is averaging 11.3 points per game and has a 2.11 assist/turnover ratio, which is the best metric out of Fairmont State players who have participated in at least 10 games.
- Fonz Hale has drained 36 three-point baskets and has posted a 13.8 points-per-game average. Hale has passed 67 assists and forced 24 steals.
- Briggs Parris, a shooting guard from Boones Mill, Va., has hit 27 triples in 10 games played. He has scored more than 10 points in eight games this season and scored a season-high 19 points in the team's win at Wheeling on Jan. 11.
- George Mangas has kept offensive possessions alive and has hauled in a team-leading 34 offensive rebounds. Mangas has averaged 13.0 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game.
- Center Tariq Woody has posted a 67.6% field goal percentage, which is the highest field goal percentage of any Fairmont State player with at least 20 attempts. The Canton, Mich. native has made 75 field goals on 111 attempts and averages 10.4 points per game.
- Seth Younkin swatted a season-high five blocks at Virginia Union and leads Fairmont State with 18 blocks. Younkin has racked up four multi-block games this season. The senior from Connellsville, Pa. has recorded 80 rebounds and is shooting 44.4% from the field.
- David Jolinder tallied a trio of blocks in Saturday's game versus West Liberty. He has averaged 9.0 points per game in his first collegiate season. Jolinder has made 14-of-28 shots from beyond the arc.
- Tim Koenig is currently in his fourth season leading Fairmont State men's basketball and in his 10th as a head coach. Koenig has won 166 career games as a head coach, which included a six-year stint at Notre Dame (Ohio).

Scouting Davis & Elkins
The Senators enter the week on a three-game losing streak and fell to Charleston, Glenville State and Concord to begin the 2023 slate. D&E is 9-7 overall and holds a 3-7 MEC record.

The Senators limit opponents to a 31.7 three-point percentage on the defensive end, which is the third-best defensive average in the MEC. Leading the defensive effort for Davis & Elkins is Sam Rolle IV, who has picked off 39 steals this season. Rolle IV ranks second in the MEC and ninth in the country in the steals category. He is the Senators' leading scorer and averages 18.4 points per game.

The Senators are led by head coach Daniel Mondragon, who is in his fourth season leading Davis & Elkins men's basketball. Mondragon previously served as an assistant coach at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida from 2013-2016.

Previous Matchup Versus the Senators
These two teams played each other in Elkins on Nov. 19 in the MEC season opener. The Fighting Falcons defeated the Senators 93-81 inside the McDonnell Center. Sanders led all scorers with 24 points and Hale chipped in 18 points to go along with nine assists.

Scouting Frostburg State
Frostburg State will face West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday before welcoming Fairmont State to Maryland. The Bobcats enter this week with a 1-9 MEC record and are 5-11 overall.

Three Bobcats average above 10 points per game with Tairell Fletcher leading the charge with 18.6 points per game. Thatcher has knocked down 109 field goals, which is the most out of any Frostburg State player. Jason Murphy owns a team-high 136 rebounds and 27 blocks while averaging 14.9 points per game. Agyei Edwards rounds out the scoring leaders for Frostburg state with 13.6 points per game.

Sean Brown Sr. is in his second season at the helm of Frostburg State hoops. He is a Frostburg State alumni and played for the Bobcats from 1997-2002.
