Fighting Falcons Facts
- The Fairmont State swimming program concluded 2022 at the Magnus Cup Invitational. Freshman Oskar Cebula shined at the event and broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.15.
- The squad recently completed a training trip to Florida at the beginning of January.
- At the Magnus Cup Invitational, Patrick Fubio completed the 100-yard backstroke at a time of 51.41, which was the fourth-fastest time in program history.
- On the women's side, Alexis Antol completed the 100-yard backstroke at 59:59, which was the third-fastest time in school history.
- Zsófi Bévárdi earned a top-10 program time when she completed the 200 Individual Medley at 2:13.10.
- This is the second Mountain East Conference meet for both squads. In the last conference contest, both teams fell to Frostburg State in October.
- The swimming program was recognized as a finalist for the NCAA Division II Award of Excellence for their outreach to the Corridor Chapter of the Autism Society of West Virginia. The community service project was awarded as the winner of the MEC.
- Head Men's & Women's Swimming Coach Sabrina Buhagiar is in her second season leading the program. Buhagiar was the interim head coach during the 2021 spring season.

Scouting Wheeling
The Cardinals dropped a tri-meet at Frostburg State last Saturday (Jan. 14). Both teams fell to Frostburg State and West Virginia Wesleyan in Maryland.

The women's team enters Saturday's match with a 2-3 overall record. The Cards defeated Bethany and Salem in the fall. Freshman Marra Johnson won the 100-yard breaststroke in last week's MEC tri-meet with a time of 1:22.20. Jade Miller took the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:20.23 and distance swimmer Gabby Baiano won the 1650-yard freestyle race.

On the men's' side, the Cardinals picked up wins versus Bethany and Salem. The men's team also owns a 2-3 overall record. Nathan Yost, a sophomore from St. Clairsville, Ohio, took second place in the 200-yard butterfly at the Frostburg State meet with a time of 2:30.33. Ethan Banks placed second in the 1650-yard freestyle at a meet versus Salem with a time of 8:12.46.

Fairmont State swimming will host WVU Tech next Saturday (Jan. 28) for its final home meet of the season. The senior day meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
