BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. --Â Evan Thompson was selected as Mountain East Conference Wrestler of the Week, provided by The Health Plan, the league announced on Monday (Jan. 23).
Thompson began his week recording a pin 2:32 in the 165-pound match that added six points in Fairmont State's 30-21 dual victory over Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday (Jan. 19). He wrapped up the week wrestling up two weight classes at 184 pounds and collected a win by fall over his opponent from Washington & Jefferson in the Fighting Falcons' 32-12 win on Saturday (Jan. 21).
Thompson is the third Fairmont State wrestler to be picked as MEC Wrestler of the Week.
Navid Ighani was named the conference wrestler of the week on Nov. 7 and
Caleb Everhart garnered the honor on Dec. 12. The Fighting Falcons lead the MEC this season with three wrestler of the week awards.
The Fairmont State Wrestling team is preparing for the MEC Championships, which will be held this Saturday (Jan. 28) on the campus of West Liberty University.
