The Fairmont State men's basketball team looks to ride an eight-game winning streak into this week with a road game at Glenville State on Wednesday (Feb. 1) and a home game versus Concord on Saturday (Feb. 4).
Fighting Falcons Facts
- Last week, Fairmont State knocked off a pair of regionally-ranked teams. The week started with a win at Joe Retton Arena versus No. 24 West Virginia State. The Falcons prevailed in overtime, 85-78, after leading by 22 points in the first half. George Mangas finished with a career-high 33 points and four steals. On Saturday (Jan. 28), the Fighting Falcons defeated Charleston by 10 points in its home gymnasium.
- Entering Wednesday, the Falcons hold a 16-4 overall record and an 11-3 conference record. Fairmont State is in a tie for second place with Charleston. Both teams are one game back of West Liberty.
- Fairmont State checked in 4th in the Atlantic Region in the Jan. 30 D2SIDA Men's Basketball Division II Media Poll. The Falcons are receiving votes in the D2SIDA Men's Basketball National Poll.
- The Fairmont State high-powered offense ranks third in the nation in scoring (92.8 points per game) and seventh in three-pointers made per game (11.1). The Fighting Falcons lead the Mountain East Conference in field goal percentage (50.3%) and three-point percentage (40.1%).
- Mangas scored a career-high 33 points versus WVSU and netted 16 at UC. He has kept offensive possessions alive and has hauled in a team-leading 39 offensive rebounds. Mangas has averaged 15.1 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.
- Following a season-high 30-point performance versus West Liberty, Isaiah Sanders was named MEC Player of the Week on Jan. 16. He was the first Fighting Falcon to be recognized for the honor this season. Sanders added seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and a blocked shot while not committing a turnover in the Fairmont State win.
- Sanders is Fairmont State's leading scorer and is averaging 18.3 points per game, which is the sixth-highest average in the conference.
- Sanders' 70 three-point baskets rank second in the country and lead the MEC. The Fighting Falcons' leading scorer has made 46.7% of his three-point attempts this season.
- Sanders was named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The award recognizes the top player from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA.
- Fairmont native Zyon Dobbs leads the Fighting Falcons with 110 rebounds and 101 assists. Dobbs is averaging 10.8 points per game and has a 2.15 assist/turnover ratio, which is the best metric out of Fairmont State players who have participated in at least 10 games.
- Fonz Hale has drained 41 three-point baskets and has posted a 13.3 points-per-game average. The Salem transfer has passed 82 assists and forced 30 steals.
- Briggs Parris, a shooting guard from Boones Mill, Va., has hit 34 triples in 14 games played. He has scored more than 10 points in 12 games this season and scored a season-high 19 points in the team's win at Wheeling on Jan. 11.
- Center Tariq Woody has posted a 65.4% field goal percentage, which is the highest field goal percentage of any Fairmont State player with at least 20 attempts. The Canton, Mich. native has made 85 field goals on 130 attempts and averages 9.6 points per game.
- Seth Younkin, a forward from Connellsville, Pa., swatted a season-high five blocks at Virginia Union and leads Fairmont State with 21 blocks. Younkin has racked up five multi-block games this season. He has pulled down 97 boards and is shooting 47.7% from the field.
- Freshman David Jolinder is averaging 8.5 points per contest and has racked up 19 blocks. He has scored more than 10 points in eight games.
- Tim Koenig is currently in his fourth season leading Fairmont State men's basketball and in his 10th as a head coach. Koenig has won 170 career games as a head coach, which included a six-year stint at Notre Dame (Ohio).

Scouting Glenville State
The Pioneers lost two close games to Alderson Broaddus (74-72) on Jan. 25 and Notre Dame College (97-93) on Jan. 28. Glenville State enters this week with a record of 12-8 and is 8-6 in MEC action.
As a team, Glenville State is ranked first in the Mountain East Conference in rebound margin (6.1) and offensive rebounds per game (14.10). Jordan Turbo Smith leads the team and ranks fourth in the MEC in points per game (19.1). He also ranks first in the conference in three-point attempts (175) and field goal attempts (319).
Justin Caldwell is currently in his fifth season as the head coach of the men's basketball program in Glenville, W.Va. Before his tenure as head coach, Caldwell spent three seasons as an assistant coach at GSU. Caldwell saw action at both Glenville State and West Virginia Wesleyan as a collegiate player, which was followed by a stint playing professionally in Luxembourg.

Previous Matchup Versus the Pioneers
The Fighting Falcons and Pioneers met on Dec. 10 in Fairmont, W.Va. in Joe Retton Arena where the Fighting Falcons fell short in an 88-83 loss.Â
Isaiah Sanders scored 18 points, 12 of which came from three-pointers. Sanders notched his 2,000th career point in the game. David Jolinder added 16 points and three blocks on defense. After a back-and-forth game, the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run to come away with the victory.
Scouting Concord
Last week, Concord suffered losses against Notre Dame College and a double-overtime loss to Alderson Broaddus. The Mountain Lions enter the week with a 10-9 overall record and a 7-7 mark in Mountain East Conference action.
Concord is ranked first in the conference in rebounds per game (41.63). The Mountain Lions are second in the MEC in blocks per game (4.4), field goal percentage defense (42.7), and offensive rebounds per game (13.84). Lual Rahama leads the MEC in double-doubles (8), rebounds (193), defensive rebounds per game (7.21) and rebounds per game (10.2).
Todd May is in his seventh season as the head coach for the Mountain Lions. May has totaled 83 wins at the helm in Athens. Before his role as head coach, May spent time as assistant men's basketball coach and aided in the compliance office at Concord. While finishing up his bachelor's degree at Ohio University, May got his first experience in coaching as a Student Assistant.

Previous Matchup Versus the Mountain Lions
Fairmont State and Concord met earlier in the season on Dec. 6, where the Fighting Falcons dropped the road game, 86-83. Sanders finished the contest with 26 points, going 5-for-11 from behind the arc.
Tariq Woody contributed 16 points and seven rebounds.
