Six Wrestlers Place at W&J Invitational

The Falcons returned to tournament play on Saturday.

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Fairmont State wrestling team competed at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 11) in Washington, Pa. Nate Pelesky finished in second place in the 133-pound bracket while Colton Stoneking (141 lbs) and Dwayne Johnson (197 lbs) placed third in their respective divisions.

Pelesky won with a pin in his first match of the day at the 2:30 mark to advance to the next round. He edged his opponent from Gettysburg 8-0 by major decision to move onto the semifinal round. He then won 16-7 via major decision over his opponent from McDaniel and qualified for the championship bout. Pelesky collected second place in the 133-pound bracket.

Stoneking began his day with two technical fall victories. He earned a 19-2 technical fall victory over his opponent from St. John Fisher in the first round and then a 21-4 technical fall win versus Gettysburg. He pinned his opponent from Waynesburg and advanced to the semifinals Stoneking dropped the semifinals match but earned another technical fall victory over Alfred State, 18-3, in the third-place match.

In the 197-pound division, Johnson secured a 10-2 decision in the opening match. He collected a 4-2 win over Thomas More in the quarterfinals before dropping the semifinal match by a score of 4-2. Johnson secured a pin in 1:02 in the third-place match over Lycoming to finish the day.

Trace Ragland secured a hard-fought pin in his first dual of the day in 5:22 over S. Virginia. Ragland earned another pin versus Muskingum and advanced to the quarterfinals in the 149-pound bracket. After a loss, Ragland won 15-0 by technical fall versus Waynesburg and 4-3 versus Upper Bradford and won fifth place in the division.

Ryan Martin pinned his opponent from Alfred State before dropping the next match to Gettysburg in the 133-pound class. He secured pins over PSU Behrend and Thiel to earn a spot in the fifth-place bout. Martin finished the tournament in dramatic fashion with another pin at 1:22 versus Lycoming.

Navid Ighani capped off the tournament for Fairmont State with a fourth-place finish in the 165-pound division. Ighani started out of the gates with wins over Alfred State 16-1 by technical fall and defeating his opponent from FSU 11-3 in major decision fashion. Ighani fell in the semifinals and third-place match and took home fourth place.

The Fairmont State wrestling team will host the Fairmont State Duals next Sunday (Nov. 19) inside Joe Retton Arena starting at noon.
