UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Fairmont State wrestling team competed at the John Carroll Open on Sunday (Feb. 12) in University Heights, Ohio.
Colton Stoneking won three matches and was the champion in the 149-pound blue bracket.

Stoneking was the winner of a 16-7 decision in his first match of the day versus his opponent from Baldwin Wallace. Stoneking knocked off a Grand Valley State wrestler in a 4-1 decision in the semifinals and completed the championship run with a 7-3 decision win over his opponent from Mercyhurst.

In the 165-pound class,
Evan Thompson earned an 11-1 decision in his opening match. After falling to a wrestler from Tiffin, Thompson earned a fall versus his opponent from Ohio State Club wrestling. Thompson took fourth place and went 2-2 on the day.

After dropping a match to Alderson Broaddus,
Thomas Graden won a 4-2 decision over a wrestler from Michigan State. Graden then recorded a fall in 3:59 over John Carroll and then forced another fall in 1:13 versus Toledo to earn a spot in the third-place match. Graden took fourth place in the bracket and went 2-2.
The Fairmont State wrestling team is set for the NCAA DII Super Regional, which will be held on Feb. 25 at East Stroudsburg University.
