WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University wrestling team finished third at the Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championship with 90.5 points. The team took home four third-place finishes on Saturday, January 27.
"Great to have another top 3 finish as a team," said head coach,
Gennaro Bonaventura. "I thought everyone battled hard and with their efforts, we were able to finish third. I am excited to continue our growth as a team and see how we finish out the season."
Brandan Myers (125 lbs), Nathan Pelesky (133 lbs),
Ryan Martin (141 lbs) and
Dwayne Johnson (197 lbs) earned Honorable Mention All-MEC accolades after winning third in their respective weight classes.
After falling in semifinals, Pelesky bounced back with an 8-7 decision win over his opponent from West Liberty. Martin had a similar route but won by fall (2:26) to take home third. Johnson also won his third-place match by fall (5:13) over his opponent from Notre Dame.
Trace Ragland took home fifth-place in the 149-pound division.
Kolton Parsons placed sixth at 157 as so did
Navid Ighani in the 165 weight class.
Evan Thompson claimed fourth at 174 while
Tristan Ice earned fifth in the 184 division.
Ethan Babay also earned sixth in the 285-pound weight class.
Fairmont State returns home on Sunday, February 4 to face Saint Vincent College and Garrett College. Match times are set for 12:00 and 1:30 p.m.
