Fairmont, WV-- It was an action packed day yesterday in the Joe Retton Arena as the Fairmont State Wrestling team hosted their first tournament ever. It was a field of 15 teams and 200 plus entries. The host team finished 7th out of 15 and had 3 overall placers. Advancing to the finals was Junior
Nate Pelesky and Senior
Dwayne Johnson. Freshmen
Ryan Martin dropped tightly contested battle in the semi-finals to #3 ranked wrestler Adrian Ayala out of Lindsey Wilson (NAIA). Martin dropped his last match as well to finish 4th overall.
Pelesky began his day with an impressive tech fall victory and then followed that up with a major decision victory in the semifinals. Pelesky won a back and forth battle in the Finals 14-7. 10-7 late in the match Pelesky iced the match with a late takedown and riding time point. He now improves to 17-9 on the year and has won 11 over his last 12 matches.
Johnson also had a very nice day winning all three of his matches by bonus points to advance to the finals. In the semifinals he knocked off Regionally Ranked foe #4 Liam Akers of Kutztown 17-4 to advance to the finals. Johnson would settle for second as he lost a back and forth battle with NAIA All-American Niko Perovic of Lindsey Wilson.
Freshmen
Trace Ragland and Tristan Ice both went 2-2 on the day as well. This was Tristan Ice's debut for the team.
Your Fighting Falcons are back in action this Wednesday where they will face MEC Rival Glenville State at Parkersburg South High School. Action is slated to start at 7:00 PM right after the High School match of Parkersburg South High School and University High School.
