CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University women's tennis team faced three-seeded, Frostburg State in the Mountain East Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Falcons were able to fight off the Bobcats for the 4-2 win.

Fairmont State clinched the doubles point with wins at second and third doubles. Maria Fonseca and Jada Mae Okoye (No. 2) and the pairing of Laura Maciel and Karla Liegle (No. 3) won their matches by the score of 6-3.

Fonseca carried the momentum into her win at first singles. The MEC Player of the Year won in straight sets, 6-0/6-1. Frostburg State got on the board with a win at No. 2 singles as it won by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

The Bobcats evened the score at two with a win at No. 4 singles with a 6-3/6-1 victory. Lara Smith gave the Falcons the lead as she was able to win in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-4/6-3.

The last two remaining matches were No. 3 singles as Maciel was battling Lauren Ceballos in a three-set thriller while Liegle was just getting started at No. 6. Liegle was able to capture the first set with ease, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Maciel dropped the first set (7-5) but battled back to claim the second with a score of 6-4. The two matches were going back-and-forth with seeing who was going to pull in front. Maciel got up early in the third set but it did not matter as Liegle came out victorious, 6-3, to give the Falcons the 4-2 win.

Fairmont State will now face the number one seed, University of Charleston in the Championship match on Sunday, May 5. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
