FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University golf teams were in action earlier this week. The women's golf team claimed the title at its home invitational while the men's team placed ninth at the Dr. Wally Edgell Classic.
The women's team hosted the Fairmont State Invitational at Green Hills Country Club as it finished first with a total score of 657.
Emerson Simons led the Falcons as she placed second with a two-round total of 152 (78-74).
Marra Johnson was the next lowest scorer as she carded rounds of 77 and 88 (165) and placed seventh.Â
Skyler Jefairjian earned eighth with a 36-hole score of 167 (81-86) while
Abigail Lint placed 10th with rounds of 91 and 84. Rounding out the starting five was
Mia Chambers in 11th with a total of 177 (89-88). Individually, Lanae Street placed ninth (174),
Gianna Koski and
Brasinn Provenzano tied for 15th with a score of 194.
For the men,
Ben Ritenour paced the team with a three-round total of 226 (78-73-75) with
Caleb Young just behind his teammate with a score of 228 (78-74-76).
Alex Turowski turned in his card with scores of 82, 78 and 79 (239) as
Liam Lohr shot a 56-hole total of 247 (86-81-80).
Mason Lapana completed the starting five with a score of 249 (72-86-81).
On the individual side,
Rudy Bland led the Falcons with scores of 76, 83 and 79 (238) as
Nik Tomblin was just one-stroke behind with rounds of 72, 79 and 78.
Nick Anderson ended the event with a score of 249 (79-84-86) with
Miguel Martinez shot a 253 (85-87-81) for the 54-hole event.
The men's golf team will take part in the West Liberty Invitational at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 22 through Tuesday, September 24. The women's team returns to the course on Friday, September 27 for the West Virginia Wesleyan Invite at the Raven Golf Club in Snowshoe, West Virginia.Â
