BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference announced its end of the awards for Women's Soccer. Eight different Falcons were honored across the four teams.
Fairmont State head coach,
Kernell Borneo was named the MEC Coach of the Year by his peers. The Falcons finished the regular season 13-1-3, the best in program's history, while also going 10-1-3 in conference play. Fairmont State won the 2025 North Division title, the first time since the 2019 season.
Graduate defender,
Filippa Stalhammar was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-MEC. Starting all 17 matches on the backline, she helped the Falcons to be tied for the least number of goals allowed in the conference with 14. She also added three goals and three assists on the scoring side of the pitch.
Joining her on the first team were
Valentina Gianinetto,
Montserrat Diaz and
Agnes Bjork. Gianinetto led the team with 25 points while also being tied for first in 10 goals and 5 assists. Three of her goals were game-winning goals, she was also a perfect 2-2 in penalty kicks.
Diaz, a senior midfielder, was the other Falcon that led the team with 10 goals. On the season, she racked up 23 points. She also recorded five game-winning goals which leads the conference.
Joining Stalhammar on the back line was Bjork, as she aided in one of the conference's lowest goals against average.
Leading the way on the All-MEC Second Team was junior goalkeeper,
Olivia Johnston. Playing in all 17 games with 16 starts, Johnston had a record of 12-1-3, allowing only 12 goals with 34 saves on the year.
Serenity Thomas returned to the All-MEC list as a second team member as a forward. Thomas scored eight goals while assisting on four others for a total of 20 points.
Ava Yannucci was honored for her freshman campaign as she was named to the All-MEC Freshman Team. Playing a mix of defense and midfield, Yannucci played in 15 matches as she scored once and assisted on five goals.
Fairmont State opens the Mountain East Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Sunday, November 9 against the Pioneers of Glenville State. First kick is slated for 5:00 p.m.
